Description
This machine is designed to process woven roving, stitch mat and/or fiberglass cloth with catalyzed polyester resin, metering the resin-to-glass ratio and depositing this material on a flat or hull surface (either male or female mold style). This style Impregnator would be used to make up bulkheads, decking and other flat sheets used to build a composite ship as well as the hull itself.
The impregnator can handle glass roll goods up to 60 inch wide. A pair of nip rollers with an adjustable gap controls resin content. The impregnator is capable of producing laminates with glass content up to 55 percent by weight (depending on materials). Use of the Impregnator reduces the amount of resin and fiberglass used. In addition, styrene fuming is far less when using the Impregnator, as the resin is simply poured into the machine from the mix head.
Impregnator Controls: All impregnator controls are mounted at the side of the impregnator. Controls include auto level activation, feed direction and speed, resin activation, solvent application, etc.
Bridge Crane Mounted Units: The machine can move along the length and across the width of the mold. In addition, with its Carriage Ring Assembly, it also may swivel 360 degrees. This permits cloth to be laid on length, width and bias of the mold surface.
Hoist for Glass Goods: A hoist will be furnished with this unit capable of lifting 600 pounds (272kg) of glass plus the weight of the roll goods cassette with a 4:1 safety margin. All lifting chains will be certified in writing from its manufacturer and will meet or exceed the safety margins.
Glass Roll Goods Cassettes: Two glass roll goods cassettes will be furnished with this unit. Each will be capable of holding two rolls of glass roving, each weighing 300 pounds (150 kg), and having a diameter not exceeding 18 inches (.46meters). These cassettes will be loaded and will incorporate a quick lock down system to secure them to the machine when in place. In addition, the roll goods themselves will be locked down to the cassettes when loaded.
Man Lift/Work Platform: This system is fitted with a redundant system that includes certified lifting chains, designed to safety standards, and two gearboxes with common torque shaft.
The Man Lift/Work Platform shall contain an Up/Down switch or control. The Man Lift/Work Platform shall be plainly marked with its Maximum Load Restrictions and shall have a rigid safety rail 1.1 meters from the floor.
